A small but well-appointed cafe and bar, Milan
The coat, I think, is my purchase of the day. Not that there are not many excellent purchases.

Shopping with you, or in this case you and Pansy, is always more pleasurable than shopping alone.

Yes, few men pull off furs as becomingly as you do.

You never asked before. Why the new found interest?

Harry and I had a slight disagreement about money. He seems to think I spend too much.

He had only found out about your pecuniary style now?

Perhaps he never really had to notice. I have a little money of my own, and I often spent Severus's, as you know.

He hadn't said a word about medical and other expenses and so I suppose I didn't think he cared at all. And there is quite a lot of money, but he seems to think we should be cautious "just in case". It's inexplicable, really, don't you think?

Not really. The two of you clearly have different financial approach. You need new shoes every season. I wager Potter has trainers that are at least ten years old.

Or at least he has dozens of different pairs.

But he can't expect me to dress like he does

Of course he doesn't. But you can reduce your expenditure and still look pretty.

[info]persuade_me

But I do not want to have make that accommodation. Why should I? It is not as if he doesn't have the money.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]sicarian

Because he wants you to? Because he's uneasy with your rarefied spending?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]persuade_me
2009-11-02 03:37 am UTC (link)
What is so rarefied about it? I mean, that is, he knows that I always take care with how I dress. That I have decided preferences as to not only my own clothes but all the things around me.

It is not as if I have never had to do without.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Darling, you want me to say you are right, you shouldn't have to watch your spending at all. But if it gives Potter a peace of mind to know that six thousand galleons are sitting in his Gringotts vault instead of draped (beautifully) around your (beautiful) person then it's a small concession to make.

You wouldn't think it so small if it were you who had to not have the new winter coat you want.

It isn't as if I never think of what he wants, and you know that and he does as well. I can't see why the money thing matters at all when he has quite enough of it.

There are so many other things to care about.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]sicarian
2009-11-02 04:01 am UTC (link)
I would.

Money matters to a great deal of people. It is the foremost thing on their minds, especially these past couple of years. And it would be very detrimental to Potter's career if he gives the appearance that money does not matter to him and his family.

I hardly think it is a political question whether or not I buy a new dinner service.

I am not trying to be obtuse, I know what you mean, but it is not as if the money is not his own.

I just find it... frustrating. I thought he knew me better.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]sicarian

But people would wonder of a rich government official if his money is indeed all his own, and after the MP expenses scandal (I'm sure Potter has told you all about it), that is now more true than ever.

I'm guessing that Potter knows you're better at giving things up than before, but he knows how difficult that is for you and he wouldn't have asked it of you if it weren't important to him.

Even if he had said such things I would still think it was absurd. They are Muggles and if we want to hide money from them, or anything else, then we just do.

It's not, perhaps, impossible. At least not to some degree but it seems so unnecessary when...

a long breath

Do you know, I think I will have a glass of wine after all. I want to tell you a story, despite the fact that I know you aren't going to enjoy it.

[info]persuade_me
2009-11-02 04:32 am UTC (link)
No. Well, I don't know. Possibly. It's not impossible, but it's too soon to tell if... And it's probably still unlikely.

There was a spell. Telugu, the healer who treated me with Scorpius came up with a possible replication, but there were complications. Difficulties.

Are you hurt? Ill?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]persuade_me
2009-11-02 04:39 am UTC (link)
I am... concerned. Anxious. Unhappy. I don't know if it's the spell, whether it worked or didn't, whether it's the difficulites and the way they keep me awake, or whether it's Severus - just Severus, or perhaps the Cottage.

I couldn't tell Telugu everything. I didn't want him to know that Lily was involved directly in what happened when Scorpius was, apparently, conceived. I didn't want him to know that her blood was, I think, part of the spell. I don't want him to know and I wouldn't attempt to replicate that part exactly and we both know why. That it is not a way we ever want opened again.

So I have no idea if Telugu could replicate the other parts of what happened and even.... It's all been very upsetting.

You know I should never make plans.

You want to give Potter a child and that is the only way you know how.

Don't ever hide anything from a healer again. You should tell Telugu everything. Then perhaps we would find out what is wrong.

No one can know about Lily. Do you know what it would mean if people knew that she can, perhaps, open a portal that would bring the Dark Lord back here. Perhaps. Even the slightest chance.

We can't risk it.

I took Scorpius's blood instead. It gives me nightmares.

I am glad you're angry with me. For that.

I think perhaps, almost certainly, Telugu killed a nixie to make the potion he gave me.

[info]persuade_me

A nixie died in Scorpius's conception. It's almost the only thing we can be completely sure about.

I didn't ask him to, but I did tell him to do what was necessary, and he said the nixie component was in the potion I drank.

[info]persuade_me

That a nixie was involved in Scorpius's birth? Harry. Severus. My parents. You. Pansy, as of this morning. Marcellus and Nymphadora. Perhaps Finola.

Oh, assorted Weasleys, I imagine. Harry would have told them. Possibly also Miss Lovegood, although I'm not positive.

I suppose that is quite a lot of people.

Oh. No one. No one at all. Not even Harry. Certainly not Severus.

Telugu knows about whatever he did with or to a nixie, of course. But not about Scorpius because he would have wanted to know why. So, no one. Just you and I.

Good. Obviously it should stay that way.

Draco, I can't believe you. And you went on and on about Harry and his unreasonable budgetary demands. I have half a mind to return everything you bought to the shops.

When would you know for certain whether you are with child or not?

It's all Severus's fault in any case.

Not every part of it is stupid.

But... some, certainly.

And there's one more thing. I suspect the nixies know. Either that or Severus abandoning me means that the Cottage is making me paranoid.

I can't afford to take anyone away else from Lake Cottage right now. Things are tenuous enough as it is. Marcellus and Nymphadora are leaving as well. Mummy is only erratically there. When Harry is at work it is often only the children and I. And the elves. I worry constantly that the house will notice.

Oh look, it's Pansy after all. I haven't told her much at all about the complexities of Lily and Scorpius. I will in time, I'm sure, but I'm just getting used to her and it's been years, of course, I can hardly tell if we will ever be as close as we once were. So let's just... We can talk tomorrow.
